A group of law enforcement officers from Cary, Concord, CMPD, Pineville, Wiston-Salem, Raleigh departments and DPS embarked on a transformative journey to Mexico as part of the Global Law Enforcement Program 2024. The program aimed to foster cross-cultural understanding, enhance community policing, and promote collaboration between law enforcement agencies.
In Mexico City, participants immersed themselves in the culture and history of the region, visiting iconic landmarks and engaging with Foreign Affairs Secretary 's authorities. They then traveled to Guanajuato, where they were welcomed by Secretary of Public Safety Alvar Cabeza de Vaca Appendini and toured the State System of Coordination, Command, Control, Communications, Computing, and Intelligence (Ci5). The program included a visit to the State Police Headquarters, where participants honored fallen officers and engaged in working sessions with officials. They also had the opportunity to meet with law enforcement families and learn about their experiences and challenges.
The group visited rural communities and the Amigos del Tren migrant food shelter where they learned about the root causes of migration and the challenges faced by migrant families. This experience was eye-opening and enriching, allowing participants to see firsthand the complexities of migration and the resilience of those affected by it. Throughout the journey, participants reflected on the importance of cross-cultural understanding and building bridges between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
