2022

CMPD officers traveled to Guanajuato on a tailored cross-training exchange program. The delegation was welcomed and hosted by Guanajuato State Police (FSPE) who spent days briefing the officers about their system. Supported by previous virtual exchange, CMPD officers engaged in person working sessions to further the knowledge about similarities and differences in their systems. The participants actively shared procedures of service and engagement, helping both departments exchange ideas that could be applied understanding each other’s policies and laws. The delegation learned Guanajuato’s Public Safety’s Prevention of Human Rights and the approach of State’s new Tourist Police division to serve foreigners. Following the model from all previous programs, officers visited the rural community of San Nicolás del Carmen continuing the work of the inaugural 2016 program. The participants visited schools,  the community center and individual families in order better understand the effect of migration in both countries. To strengthen the topic, officers were briefed on causes, cycles and current statistics of migration. The 2022 delegation spent a day with Guanajuato’s State police families deepening knowledge about family life as a police officer in Mexico. Participants returned to the United States eager to make a change benefiting  Latino families in Charlotte and to continue stronger relationships with FSPE.
